Christmas

新冠病毒伴著全世界的人從春天走到了冬天，改變了人們生活的常態，又有許多人不幸感染病毒意外地失去了性命，深深為他們感到惋惜不捨。已到歲末，世人期待的聖誕新年佳節也因疫情肆虐，各地淡化歡慶活動，避免群聚降低感染機率，而安心居家僅和最親愛的家人在一起，則是最安全的選擇。過去這ㄧ長段網課期間，見證學生努力不懈的學習精神，令老師們深感欣慰，教學熱誠持續升溫，同時也要感謝許多家長陪伴著子女一起上課，成為強而有力的最佳伴讀搭檔！

The sweeping COVID-19 pandemic has been affecting everyone in the world throughout the four seasons in 2020. It has impacted our livelihoods and led to a dramatic loss of human life worldwide, throwing many families into a quandary. The saving grace is that Christmas cheer is around the corner to lighten the mood. Yet, in order to mitigate the transmission, coronavirus rules over the holidays have not been relaxed. Christmas festivities have been scaled back and multigenerational indoor gatherings are warned against. People are encouraged to stay home to celebrate with their loved ones in their immediate household. Looking back in our last week before the Christmas break, we feel so blessed to have witnessed the exuberant learning spirits in our virtual classrooms that are profusely filled with teachers' passion. A debt of gratitude is owed to our parents and guardians who are our best partners in this education journey.

上學期轉眼過去，線上學習少了些檢驗學習成果的機會，校方將舉辦兩項線上比賽，強化中文書寫及口語認讀能力，希望學生踴躍參與，並利用寒假期間多多練習。期盼學生在疫情中，保有樂觀心態，持續學習，並祝福灣谷每個家庭闔家幸福美滿，佳節快樂！

At the end of our first semester, we would like to encourage all students to remain engaged in their learning spirits throughout the Winter Break. BVCS is launching for the first time two online competitions to strengthen students' writing skill and to enhance their speaking ability. All students are highly encouraged to participate and to use the holidays to practice and maximize their learning. We wish our parents, students, and community partners a joyous and safe Christmas season. May you and your families find peace in the coming year!

Look What's Happening!

  1. 鉛筆書法比賽 （送件截止日：1/8/2021）
    鉛筆書法比賽將分為低年級 (K~2年級) 、中年級 (3~5年級) 、與高年級 (6年級以上) 三組評比。此項比賽可視為學生的寒假作業，截止日期為一月八日。
    獎勵辦法：每級選出前三名，獎金依序為 $50, $30, $20 。
    ＊比賽試題：將由各班級老師分別發出，請留意電郵內容。
    Handwriting Contest ─ Calligraphy with a pencil
    Rules: Entrants are grouped into 3 tiers: Junior (Grades K-2), Intermediate (Grades 3-5), and Senior (Grade 6 and above). Participants are to use pencils to finish a handwriting assignment.(Note: This exercise could be seen as winter break homework.)
    Deadline: Last day for online submission of the handwriting work is January 8, 2021.
    Prizes: 3 winners would be chosen from each tier, with an award of $50 to 1st place, $30 to 2nd place and $20 to 3rd place.
    Handwriting Materials: Teachers will reveal the materials for the handwriting contest via email. Please stay tuned. .
  2. 詩歌朗讀比賽 （報名截止日：2/5/2021）
    比賽規則： 學生自由參加，分為低年級 (K~2年級) 、中年級 (3~5 年級)、與高年級 (6年級以上) 三組評比。參賽者到自己年級的指定題庫挑出一首詩歌比賽，如外加自選詩歌，則視為加分項目。
    評分標準： 咬字四聲抑揚頓挫清晰正確 50% 、語調情感表達得宜 30% 、儀容態度表情 20%， 若能背誦額外加分。
    線上比賽日： 2 月 19 日
    獎勵辦法： 每級選出前三名，獎金依序為 $50, $30, $20 。 .

    Poetry Recitation Contest
    Rules: Participation is voluntary.Entrants are grouped into 3 tiers: Junior (Grades K-2), Intermediate (Grades 3-5), and Senior (Grade 6 and above). Participants are to choose one poem in the assigned repertoire and recite virtually on the date of contest in front of a panel of judges. If participants decide to recite an additional poem from the self-chosen repertoire, they will earn extra credits.
    Deadline: Last day for online submission of the entry from is February 5, 2021.
    Scoring Rubric: enunciation and pronunciation accuracy 50%; voice and articulation 30%; physical presence and dramatic appropriateness 20%; extra credits for memorization effort.
    Date of Virtual Contest: February 19, 2021
    Prizes: 3 winners would be chosen from each tier, with an award of $50 to 1st place, $30 to 2nd place and $20 to 3rd place.
