About
Us
The Bay Valley Chinese School is a non-profit organization
supported by a group of dedicated and motivated teachers and parent
volunteers. BVCS does not discriminate on the basis of race, color,
nationality, ethnic origin, or religion. Incorporated in 2001, the school
boasts an enrollment of over 200 students for the very first school
year!
Our school fund comes from student tuition, and student family/friend
donation. The school budget is used on campus rent, custodian/janitor
fee, teacher’s compensation, teaching/student material, and school activities.
Besides the teachers, all members of the BVCS staff receive no pay.
The 2006-2007 school year is BVCS's fifth year. Chinese classes are
offered from the kindergarten through 12th grade levels. Classes are
held at Charlotte Wood Middle School (600 El Capitan Drive, Danville
CA), Friday evenings from 7:00 - 8:50 PM in two 50-minute periods with
a 10-minute recess. The 2006-2007 school year consists of 32 weeks of
instruction divided into two semesters.
The objective of BVCS is to provide an excellent environment for students
to learn Mandarin Chinese Language and to explore Chinese Culture. Our
teachers are all highly experienced and specialized in Chinese language
teaching. They are very caring, and know how to inspire students to
have an appreciation for Chinese culture. BVCS puts an emphasis on providing
students with more individual attention and plenty of time to practice
conversation with the teacher. Starting in the 6th grade, students learn
pinyin, which will prepare them for college-level Chinese Language courses.
Starting in the fall semester 2003, BVCS has been offering Enrichment
Program to BVCS students and teaching assistants. The Enrichment Program
is designed to create a fun and exciting place for children to learn
about different aspects of their cultural heritage that are only touched
upon in textbooks. Classes are on Fridays from 6:00 - 6:50 PM, 20 students
per class.
Parents’ involvement is a key to the success of our
school program and to the success of our students and their learning.
Our school welcomes your involvement to make it a better place for your
children and our community.
