助教 — 老師的神奇小幫手
當學生走進教室時，迎接他們的不只是老師，還有我們熱情又貼心的助教。雖然灣谷的老師們都是中文母語者，但是您可知道，大部分助教都是在美國土生土長的孩子，就像我們的學生一樣，從小說的是英文。然而，經過長時間的努力學習，他們的中文不僅變得流利，更成為老師不可或缺的神奇小幫手。
每個星期，我們都能看到助教們默默守護在孩子身邊：課間休息後細心清點人數，確保大家安全返回教室；當孩子對中文指令感到迷惘時，他們會用英文耐心地協助和解釋。課堂之外，他們同樣活躍：在冰淇淋迎新會裡忙著舀冰淇淋、在農曆新年慶典的舞台上與學生盡情表演、在學年末嘉年華會中熱心協助遊戲攤位。
自從上週分享了畢業助教王婕琳在台灣夏令營教學的故事後，大家對灣谷的助教制度產生濃厚興趣。許多家長都想知道：怎麼樣才能成為助教？遴選是如何操作？為什麼學生會喜歡當助教？

Teaching Assistants — The Magic Behind Every Classroom
When students walk into class, they are greeted warmly not only by their teacher but also by our wonderful teaching assistants (TAs). While our teachers are all native Chinese speakers, most of our TAs grew up speaking English, much like many of our students. Over time, they have become impressively fluent in Chinese while serving as friendly bridges between teachers and students.
Week after week, our TAs quietly but wholeheartedly guide those young learners who need a little extra help, make sure everyone returns safely after recess, and gently explain in English when someone feels overwhelmed by the Chinese instruction. Beyond the classroom, you see them scooping ice-cream at our Ice-cream Social, performing on stage during the Chinese New Year Celebration, and helping run games at the year-end Carnival.
Since sharing the inspiring story of Jaclyn Wang, a former TA who spent her summer teaching at a camp in Taiwan, interest in our TA program has grown tremendously. Many families have been asking: How does one become a TA? What is the selection process like? Why would a student want to take on this role?

Bay Valley Chinese School is a non-profit school with limited staff, and we rely on families to help keep our campus safe. Each household is required to have one parent/guardian serve on campus patrol.
To respect privacy, the names of assigned parents for the week will be shared only through private emails, along with a friendly reminder from the monthly patrol lead.

【Formosa – Beautiful Island】Drawing Contest
【宗 旨】: 北加州中文學校聯合會謹訂於中華民國114年9-10月舉辦國慶繪畫比賽，鼓勵發揚僑民創作力與愛國心，以推展中華民國雙十國慶在地的認同感，及增加海外僑胞的凝聚力及愛國情操，並團結支持中華民國。
【美麗的寶島】國慶繪畫比賽:
學生可以把台灣有關的風土民情，或台灣的美麗風景為題材，舉凡：跟父母回台灣看到印象深刻的美麗風景等等為主題，同學們可以挑選他們在台灣參加過印象最深的活動來作畫，記錄精彩的風土民情與風景。
【Purpose】
ANCCS will hold a National Day Drawing Contest in September–October, 2025. The contest encourages creativity and patriotism among overseas Chinese, promotes recognition of Taiwan’s Double Tenth National Day, strengthens unity, and fosters a spirit of national pride and support for the Republic of China.
【 Formosa – Beautiful Island】 Drawing Contest:
Students are invited to use Taiwan-related themes, such as its rich culture, traditions, or beautiful scenery. Examples include memorable landscapes seen while visiting Taiwan with family, or unique activities and cultural experiences that left a strong impression. Through their drawings, students can capture and share the beauty of Taiwan’s people, culture, and environment.
